‘Now more clear than ever that government using Egrant report for political purposes’- Delia

Opposition Leader Adrian Delia said that it is now more clear than ever that government is using the Egrant inquiry report by Magistrate Aaron Bugeja for political purposes.

He said that the need for the Opposition to be given a full copy of the report has increased in urgency due to political imbalance.

In court, a PN statement read, "the Deputy Head of Government Communications Matthew Carbone said that he discussed the inquiry conclusions many times with Justice Minister Owen Bonnici, and OPM Chief of Staff Keith Schembri. He said he spoke about everything with Schembri, yet not on the parts in the report where Schembri is mentioned."

"During today's sitting it was also revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Lawrence Cutajar, has a copy of the whole inquiry report, and that like him, there are around 11 other police corps members who have access to the report. The Commissioner said that he was given a copy from Assistant Commissioner Ian Abdilla after the Attorney General's office had passed on a copy."

The PN argued that this situation is creating a political imbalance since no copy was given to the Opposition.
