Ex Smiths Morrissey and Marr meet but decide against reunion

Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has revealed he met one-time writing partner Morrissey to discuss a reunion, but believes their friendship cannot be rekindled. The 51-year-old musician said that their relationship had "run its course" and that the duo were now focused on doing their own thing. The pair formed a powerhouse writing partnership which shot them to prominence in the early 1980s, with Marr's haunting guitar lines often providing the fitting backdrop to Morrissey's famously bleak subject matter. The demise of the Manchester four-piece was one of the most spectacular in the history of popular music, the fallout of which saw drummer Mike Joyce and bassist Andy Rourke taking Morrissey and Marr to court over royalties in 1989. Talk of the band's reformation has dogged both Marr and Morrisey for decades, despite their repeated insistence it was never going to happen. He told The Guardian Weekend magazine: "I don't feel unfriendly in any way towards Morrissey - there's just no need for it. Bayern Munich win again, promoted Leipzig keep pace in Bundesliga

Robert Lewandowski and Arjen Robben led Bayern Munich to another win while promoted Leipzig kept pace by extending its record Bundesliga start on Saturday.

Lewandowski netted two goals set up by Robben and returned the favor for the Dutch winger to also score as Bayern defeated Augsburg 3-1 again, this time away. Bayern also defeated its Bavarian rival by the same score in the German Cup in Munich on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Leipzig substitute Marcel Sabitzer scored twice for a 2-0 win at Darmstadt, extending the record unbeaten start for a Bundesliga newcomer to nine games. Leipzig consolidated second place, two points behind Bayern on 23.

Borussia Dortmund was hosting Schalke in the Ruhr derby later.

AUGSBURG 1, BAYERN 3

Bayern, which visits PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday, looked to be heading for a rout as it completely dominated the first half in Augsburg.

Lewandowski needed two touches to break the deadlock in the 19th minute, the first to take Robben's ball between two defenders and the next to send it beyond Augsberg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz to the right corner for his sixth goal of the season.

The Poland forward returned the favor almost immediately, pulling the ball back from Paul Verhaegh's attempted clearance for Robben to score.

Javi Martinez went off with an apparent thigh injury before half an hour was played, Mats Hummels coming on in the Spaniard's place.

It was no surprise when Lewandowski grabbed his second soon after the break, again with two touches and again set up by Robben. Lewandowski eluded Hitz and a defender with his first touch before slotting into the unguarded net with his next.

Koo Ja-cheol took advantage of some wayward Bayern defending to equalize from close range with more than 20 minutes remaining but it was as good as it got for the home side.

Leipzig's remarkable start continues thanks to another gritty performance in Darmstadt

Sabitzer was set up by Timo Werner to break the deadlock with a simple finish before the hour-mark, while another substitute, Scotland winger Oliver Burke, set him up late to seal the result for the visitors.

WOLFSBURG 1, BAYER LEVERKUSEN 2

Wolfsburg is now eight league games without a win after a late collapse against Leverkusen.

Maximilian Arnold broke the deadlock for Wolfsburg minutes before the break, sweeping the ball home from Daniel Caligiuri's cross.

But Leverkusen responded with a late spell of unrelenting pressure. Admir Mehmedi equalized with a well-worked team effort with just over 10 minutes remaining and Tin Jedvaj scored shortly later.

The win offers some respite for Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt, banned from the pitch for shouting an insult at Hoffenheim counterpart Julian Nagelsmann during their sides' game last weekend. It was Leverkusen's first win in five games across all competitions.

Freiburg grabbed its first away win of the season at Werder Bremen, winning 3-1, while Mainz recovered from its recent slump with a 2-0 win at home over Ingolstadt.

Mourinho sent off as Man Utd draw with Burnley

Manchester United stretched their winless Premier League streak to four games after their manager Jose Mourinho and midfielder Ander Herrera were sent off in a 0-0 home draw with Burnley. Referee Mark Clattenburg dismissed Mourinho at halftime after the Portuguese protested over a first-half penalty claim being waved away by the official, while Herrera was red-carded for a second bookable foul midway through the second half. United missed a barrage of chances in either half and hit the woodwork twice as they laid siege to Burnley's goal, whose keeper Tom Heaton produced a superb performance against his former club with a string of spectacular saves. The 30-year old, who never got a look-in at United during his 2005-2010 stint at Old Trafford, denied Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic three times each, including a breathtaking stop to keep out the latter's close-range overhead kick.

With 11 days to go before the US presidential election, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton leads Republican Donald Trump by 15 percentage points among early voters surveyed in the past two weeks, according to the Reuters/Ipsos States of the Nation project. Though data is not available for all early voting states, Clinton enjoys an edge in swing states such as Ohio and Arizona and in Republican Party strongholds such as Georgia and Texas. An estimated 19 million Americans have voted so far in the election, according to the University of Florida's United States Election Project, accounting for as much as 20 percent of the electorate. Overall, Clinton remained on track to win a majority of votes in the Electoral College, the Reuters/Ipsos survey showed. Having so many ballots locked down before the November 8 election is good news for the Clinton campaign. HAMRUN SPARTANS: 2 PEMBROKE ATHLETA: 1 Ħamrun Spartans returned to winning ways after defeating Pembroke Athleta with two first half goals.   The match turned out to be an interesting, if not vibrant affair with Ħamrun always predisposed to take their game to their opponents. Steve D'Amato's side scored twice in the opening period, but excitement kept brewing up in the second part of the game, when Pembroke cut the deficit. Ħamrun Spartans went near with a free-kick inside the first eight minutes. Mifsud Triganza's swerving drive looked destined to sail into top corner but goalkeeper Matthew Calleja Cremona jumped to his left to touch the ball away for corner. Jake Grech broke the deadlock just shy the quarter of hour mark, by turning and cracking in a looping shot which appeared to take a deflection via Andrea Scozzese as it sailed over a stranded Calleja Cremona. Ħamrun's forward-moving momentum had Saturday Nanapere and Jake Grech shifting positions and from one such foray, past the quarter of hour mark, Calleja Cremona pushed Jake Grech's close-range shot onto the post.
