The Health Ministry today ordered an inquiry into allegations of irregularities in the election process for the Nursing and Midwives Council.
Two of the candidates this week filed a judicial protest claiming irregularities.
The council is an autonomous body that elects its own electoral commission and is also responsible for the publication of the election results.
The inquiry is led by Mr Joseph Caruana, permanent secretary in the Sustainable Development and Environment Ministry.
