Zubair Fathi Mohamed Ramada, a 20-year-old man from Libya, today pleaded guilty to voluntarily damaging a vehicle and was ordered to pay damages worth €623 over the span of six months. The Libyan was also conditionally discharged.
The incident took place on 27 October at around 5am on St George's Street, Paceville. The court heard how the accused, while in an extremely inebriated state, had come across a vehicle of the type Mitsubishi parked in an alley off the street in question.
In his drunken state, the accused picked up rocks he saw around him and smashed the car's windscreen. The owner of the car, Mr David Attard, reported the damage to the police, who identified the accused through CCTV footage of him committing the act.
Through his court appointed legal aid, Dr Noel Bartolo, the accused said that he was very sorry for what he had done and certainly learnt his lesson. He immediately said he would be paying for the damages but asked for this to be done so over a span of six months, because he did not have the money at hand.
Magistrate Charmaine Galea, presiding over the case, granted him a two year conditional discharge and ordered him to pay the damages to Mr Attard over a span of six months.
