When he addressed supporters in the foyer of the PN HQ, party leader Simon Busuttil said there is one big lesson to be learned from today's Constitutional Court judgement: Never give up.
Beginning and ending with the battlecry of the 1980s: Righteousness prevails (Is-sewwa jirbah zgur),he said that the judgement depends on a fundamental principle of democracy: every vote must count.
An election is won by votes, not by those who count the votes.
There are two MPs who should not be there, he said: Joe Debono Grech (boos from the crowd) and Justyne Caruana. But try and get them out of their seats!
The majority the government began with, nine seats, has now become five. In less than four years Joseph Muscat lost four seats, a seat every year.
It is now up to the Electoral Commission to meet urgently to take into account the Constitutional Court judgement.
The result shows we must never give up.
Dr Busuttil mentioned Edwin Vassallo who always believed in the case and who was always present at the court sittings.He also mentiioned and thanked Paul Borg Olivier who led the lawyer team.
The Labour Party at first professed indifference in the court case. Then when PN won the case, Labour woke up and insisted on doing everything from scratch. Then they appealed at every stage. At one of the last sittings no less than half the Cabinet was present, thus exerting pressure on the judges.
While mentioning Mr Vassallo, Dr Busuttil kept silent on who the second MP will be, even though Ann Fenech was right in front of him.
The two MPs, he told the crowd, will use the remaining time of this legislature to work on behalf of the people, especially the poor, the pensioners and the lower classes.
