Man from Niger pleads not guilty to drug possession, injuring police officer

Abubakar Ibrahim Jabril, 32 from Niger, today pleaded not guilty to a number of charges in court, however told the court room that some of the charges were true, while others were not.

If he were to plead guilty, he would have to do so for all charges.

He was charged with, on 13 February 2017, being in possession of cannabis resin, resisted arrest, caused slight injuries to a police officer, carried a knife, committed a crime while under a suspended sentence, and for being recidivist.  He was also charged for being in possession of cannabis back in 2015.

The defence said that the accused also had some injuries.

The defence requested bail, however prosecuting inspector Frank Anthony Tabone had previously been found guilty of other crimes and was serving a suspended sentence. Magistrate Doreen Clarke refused the bail request.
