10 persons were charged with rape in 2016, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said this evening. He was replying to a Parliamentary Question by PL MP Anthony Agius Decelis.
All of the accused were men. Four are Maltese and the other six are foreigners.
In one case the person accused, a foreigner, was acquitted. The other nine cases are still pending.
Mr Abela also said 203 were taken to court over drink driving during the course of last year.
In reply to a PQ by PN MP Chris Said, Mr Abela said 86 people had been jailed or held under arrest in connection with drugs cases in 2016. Presently there are 150 prisoners who were convicted of drug trafficking. 76 of them are foreigners.
