Two men sentenced to jail after pleading guilty to robbery charges

Two men were this morning arraigned before Magistrate Joe Mifsud charged with committing more than 10 robberies.

The accused, a 31-year-old from Valletta and a 42-year-old from Bormla, were charged with a string of thefts in Zebbug, Attard, Gzira, Qormi and Ta' Xbiex. These thefts were carried out between January and May this year.

The two managed to steal thousands of euros. They are also being charged with damaging property belonging to third parties.

The 31-year-old was also accused of stealing a car's registration plate and for driving a vehicle with the number plate registered on another vehicle.

Magistrate Mifsud heard how the two had also broken their bail conditions.

The two men pleaded guilty to the charges set against them. The 31-year-old was condemned to 54 months in prison while the 42-year-old man was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Inspector Roderick Agius led the prosecution.
