19 libel cases instituted by DB Group against Daphne Caruana Galizia set to continue

Following the brutal murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, 19 libel cases previously instituted by Silvio Debono of DB Group are expected to continue to be heard.

Debono filed the libel cases back in March over a series of stories penned by Caruana Galizia on the transfer of the land occupied by the Institute of Tourism Studies in St George's Bay by the Government to Debono. Debono plans to develop a hotel, luxury apartments and a casino.

This morning, Caruana Galizia's lawyer, Joseph Zammit Maempel and Debono's lawyer, William Cuschieri appeared before Magistrate Francesco Depasquale who is presiding over the case. Zammit Maempel asked for a postponement in light of the murder, asking for more time allowing the Caruana Galizia family to provide some direction.

On his part, Cuschieri declared that he is ready to present affidavits pertinent to the case.

Neither Silvio Debono nor the family of Caruana Galizia were present during this morning's proceedings.
