Bulgarian pickpockets caught red handed, police patrols increased

Two Bulgarian pickpockets were today caught red handed stealing a wallet in Sliema, the police said.

One of the women was acting as a spotter while the other stole the wallet from a woman's purse.

The police said several Romanian and Bulgarian nationals had been under surveillance over the past days after it received several reports of pickpocketing cases, particularly in bus stops and on buses.

Today's case took place at around 11am in Tower Road, Sliema. The women were arrested and are helping the police in their investigations. The women are aged 23 and 36. They are expected to be arraigned tomorrow.

The police said its investigations are ongoing and that it has increased patrols in crowded areas.
