Most speed contraventions in past year from Attard speed camera

The highest number of speed contraventions given between July 2016 and June 2017 from one single speed camera were given to vehicles that went over the speed limit in Triq in-Nutar Zarb in Attard.

Throughout those months, that speed camera caught 12,265 vehicles going over the 50 km/h speeding limit of that road.

These figures were tabled in Parliament this evening by Justice Minister Owen Bonnici, in a reply to a question by Nationalist MP Hermann Schiavone,  who asked the Minister how many contraventions have been registered by Local Enforcement System Agency (LESA) from every speed camera in the past twelve months.

The great majority of the vehicles, 11,622, were only fined by speeding past the camera by going over the limit by maximum 15 km/h, whilst 643 vehicles went over the speed limit with a speed of over 15km/hr.

Throughout those months, a total of 79,608 conventions were given with relation to speed cameras.

The town with the highest number of cases of defying speed limits was Birkirkara with a total of 12,861 speed conventions, however split over two speed cameras, as opposed to the solitary one in Attard.

Birkirkara and Attard registered relatively high numbers of speed contraventions when compared to other towns. The town with the third highest number of contraventions following Attard's 12,265 vehicles, was Santa Venera with 7,758 speed contraventions in total.
