€ 118,000 in financial assistance for 46 civil society organisations

The Civil Society Fund - by the Maltese Council for the Voluntary Sector on behalf of the Parliamentary Secretariat for Youth, Sport and Voluntary Organizations - has awarded 46 civil society organizations a total of € 118,000 in aid to remain active at European level.

At a ceremony held at the Volunteer Centre in Valletta, the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Sport and Voluntary Organizations Clifton Grima handed out grants to the representatives of these organizations.

During the ceremony, the Parliamentary Secretary said that the Government recognises the importance of having these organizations in our country and that the Government is acting responsibly when allocating national funds to civil society organizations who continue to sound Malta's voice in the plenary sessions of the EU, which lead to greater collaboration and opportunities to use the EU fund. Clifton Grima said that the government considers NGOs as important partners in social and economic development of this country.

He said that the determination and dedication of people performing work in voluntary organisations is essential in improving human dignity.

Every organization is entitled to 80 percent of all costs incurred in participating in forums, not only local but also at European level.

The Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) are considered the backbone of any democratic society. According to the European Commission, the Civil Society Organizations (CSO's) including non-governmental organizations (voluntary organizations), local organizations, cooperatives, trade unions, professional associations, universities, media and independent foundations.
