MUT condemns aggression against head of school by a student’s grandmother

The MUT has condemned aggression against a Head of School during the carrying out of her duties by a relative of a student, which led to the head teacher being hospitalized. The Union will not accept this type of aggression and is expecting immediate investigations by the police and education authorities respectively and to take all necessary actions accordingly. The MUT reiterates that there should be security measures taken at every school, which measures have never been implemented.

In a government statement, it was said that around 10.15am this morning a person who identified herself as a student's grandmother requested a meeting with the head of a school in Birgu. Once inside, she was immediately taken to meet the head and reportedly physically assaulted the man once inside his office.

The government statement said that the assistant head was also present for the assault.

Investigations are ongoing.

Education Minister Evarist Bartolo deplores this kind of attack on educators while in the course of their duties, and asked for the authorities to take all necessary stemps.

The minister remarked that adults should be giving a good example to students, especially within a school.
