The Office of the President has denied any discussions, "formal or otherwise", over the possibility of President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca serving a second term as the President of Malta.
The statement was made in reply to a story which featured on The Sunday Times of Malta.
In A press release issued this evening, it was said that:
"The Office of the President would like to make it clear that, contrary to what was alleged in the front page story of The Sunday Times, there have been no discussions — formal or otherwise — nor any 'diplomatic signals' over the possibility of Her Excellency serving a second term as President of Malta.
"It should further be noted that both political parties have been promising Constitutional Reform since 2013, before H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca was appointed Head of State, and the first discussion on this matter between the President and the country's political leaders took place in June 2014.
"The President, who is currently on a State visit to Croatia representing her country, remains fully committed to her role, to which she continues to dedicate unerring energy and commitment."
