Warnings of industrial action by nurses in Gozo withdrawn as agreement reached

Warnings of industrial action by nurses and midwives at the Gozo General Hospital have been withdrawn, after the MUMN and the hospital reached agreement over the implementation of new nursing rosters.

Previously, agreement had been reached to implement new nursing rosters, however these were halted, he said. "We then gave government till Monday to honour what was agreed." The meeting today, he said, was between the MUMN, Health Minister Chris Fearne, officials from the Gozo General Hospital, and the Stewards CEO.

In a separate situation however, Galea confirmed with this newsroom that a one-day strike for nurses at the Mater Dei Hospital operating theatres is still set for Monday. The strike is over a nursing shortage in the operating theatres.

"We gave government the chance, by Sunday, to allocate 20 more nurses to operating theatres. We have a meeting with management set for tomorrow to try and find a solution, and if no solution is found, there will be a one-day strike for the nurses who work in the operating theatres."
