Watch: Politicians give 16-year-olds right to vote, but few interested

Parliament on Wednesday approved the second reading of a bill which will lead to opening the way for 16-year-olds to vote in general elections and national referenda.

A vox-pop carried out by The Malta Independent at the Junior College and Higher Secondary School however showed that some students do not know about the development while others have no interest in taking part in the democratic process.

The bill will go for the third reading in the coming days, with both government and opposition in favour. The first time 16-year-olds will be able to vote will be in May 2019 for the European Parliament election.
