Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne this evening said that he had been approached by a number of Nationalist MPs who proposed their own amendments to the IVF law.
Fearne was addressing the plenary session of the PL's general conference. Wednesday's session was addressed by the party's other deputy leader, Chris Cardona.
Adrian Delia says the PN is against the proposed amendments, which will introduce embryo freezing and surrogacy. He says that he will give his MPs a free vote but insists that, as Prime Minister, he would repeal these amendments.
But the health minister this evening said that he had been approached by a number of PN MPs who did not agree with their leader. "They have come to me with their own amendments so that we can move forward and keep improving this law."
Fearne also insisted that the proposed amendments would double the embryo survival rate, explaining that with the current system 90% of embryos are lost.
The deputy PM also heaped praise on the PM, telling delegates that under Joseph Muscat the party had found the "recipe for success."
Fearne promised further successes, adding that the PL was committed to helping those in need of help. Times have changed, society has changed and the economic model have changed, but our principles remain the same, he said.
