Lija protruding tree condoned off after video

A tree in Lija that was the subject of a video uploaded on Facebook by a concerned citizen has been cordoned off pending further action.

A woman, Lilian Chetcuti Riolo, uploaded a video on Facevook showing a tree that protrudes dangerously on the road near the Lija cemetery as one is travelling towards Birkirkara.

It is clear that there have been some near misses already, as the branch that overlies the road has already been hit, the marks of the impact clearly showing.

Following the video, which was also put online on this website, the Civil Protection Department condoned off the area to avoid any mishaps.

The tree is on private property.

Concern about protruding trees on Maltese roads has dramatically increased over the past day, after the accident which caused the death of two tourists and injured 50 others in Zurrieq.
