PD to PM: Do you really want a strong and united Opposition?

With reference to the Prime Minister's statement that he wants a strong and united Opposition, Partit Demokratiku said today that it is clearly more convenient for the Prime Minister to have an Opposition that he can control and outmanoeuvre.  The Opposition, PD said in a statement, has repeatedly called him out on scandals starting from Cafè Premier, Australia Hall, l-AUM, Vitals, visas scandal, Panama, ITS and countless others.

The Prime Minister's true interest is not having an Opposition off whom he can bounce ideas, since it is blatantly obvious that the Prime Minister's office wields all authority, while hiding contracts and excluding stakeholders from discussions, as well as ignoring feedback, advice or alternatives to destructive policies. Many suggestions have been offered and ignored, while crises continue to mount, and no effort is made to control the army of trolls daily insulting and denigrating anybody not agreeing blindly with Government, PD said.

Partit Demokratiku said it has demonstrated that pluralism in politics allows for a healthier democracy, with a wider range of creative forces suggesting better policies. The true problem is that the government is not interested in ideas, solutions or serious changes which the country desperately needs. Instead, the government is willing to pay any price to stay in power, including calling for a united but slow and weak Opposition, rather than a strong pluralistic one.
