Standing up to be counted with NGOs and concerned citizens in Valletta - PD

Partit Demokratiku salutes the hundreds of people who showed up for Saturday's demonstration in favour of our environment. We acknowledge the great work being done by the NGOs and pledge our support to any initiatives that highlight the plight of the country's natural and physical assets. We reiterate our position that the environment needs to be safeguarded for future generations, PD said in a statement. At the moment, in the name of economic progress, we are witnessing a systematic and ruthless attack on our environment without any regard for sustainable development. We condemn the total abdication by the Planning Authority of its duty towards the people. We condemn the emasculation of the previous MEPA by the total weakening of the Environmental Regulator. We have long insisted on a holistic and thought out strategy and an overall Master Plan.Malta is suffering from excessive dust and noise pollution and abject waste management. Malta's political leaders have succumbed to the whims and demands of the speculators, have given up on creating proper mobility infrastructures and have allowed our towns and villages to lose their social fabric due to excessive traffic within their streets.Partit Demokratiku said it insists on full consultation with all interested parties to develop an Environmental Strategy beyond party lines and which will be worked upon by successive governments for the general benefit of all and not the select few. Malta belongs to us all.
