Fisherman drowns after being pulled into sea in Zurrieq

An 85-year-old fisherman drowned on Tuesday morning after he was pulled into the rough sea by the waves at Wied iz-Zurrieq.

First responders were alerted at 6.45am and an Armed Forces helicopter was sent to aid the rescuers on the ground.

They managed to bring him back to land but he was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations are currently underway.
