The number of tickets for traffic offences issued by Police Officers has decreased by roughly 36% when compared with 2016, figures provided to Parliament show.
The figures, which were provided by Home Affairs Minister Michael Farrugia when answering a parliamentary question tabled by MP Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici, show that there have been 24,909 tickets issued as of May 2018.
For the whole of 2016, 77,172 tickets were issued, while for 2017, 60,410 were issued, a decrease of 22%.
If roughly the same amount of tickets is collected for the last six months of 2018 (totalling to 49,818), then the amount issued for the year would mean a decrease of 18% when compared with the previous year, and a massive 36% when compared to 2016.
