The rain forecast for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day did not materialise, but if predictions for this week will be correct, Malta is set for a cold snap, typical of January wintry days.
New Year's Day will possibly be the last day without rain for the first week of 2019, as the Meteorological Office at Malta International Airport is forecasting rain every day between tomorrow and Sunday.
But what will certainly be a change – if the forecast is correct – is that the next few days will be very cold by Malta's standards (see graphic below)
The highest temperature on Thursday is predicted to be 12 degrees, but it will feel like 9 degrees, the Met Office says. The lowest on the day will 5 degrees.
It will get even colder on Friday, with a high of 9 degrees but it will feel like 5 degrees, and a low of 4 degrees overnight.
On Saturday, the temperature will go slightly up – a high of 10 degrees (feels like 7) and a low of 9 degrees.
