The agricultural sector in Malta is being seen as a dying industry, as more attention is on marijuana production rather than our own local farmers, said Leader of the Nationalist Party Adrian Delia. Delia was speaking at a meeting with local producers and farmers to hear their proposals to improve and to provide a more sustainable means of farming and production.
Delia said that this year's Budget lacks any mention of improving the working productions for farmers or of their produce. He said that there is no mention of their contribution to society, and that the Opposition Party are ready to hear their proposals to improve the situation. He highlighted that in countries such as Italy and France who have what are known as "cottage industries", their products bring about pride and identity and play a huge part of the country's heritage, and that local Maltese products should do the same. He said that the Maltese who buy local products such as milk, fruit and vegetables should be aware that such products are of high quality, and that through investment could be even better.
A dying industry
The message which the National Budget is portraying is that the agriculture sector is a dying industry, and the Government would rather invest in marijuana farms. Delia highlighted that the Nationalist message is clear "we are here for the workers and farmers, ready to hear any proposals to improve this situation and to bring attention to the Government."
Accompanying Delia there was PN General Secretary Clyde Puli and PN MEP candidates Peter Agius
