Jason Azzopardi says he received cocaine sachet in envelope at PN headquarters

Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi said that last week he received an envelope which contained a cocaine sachet, and that he had passed it on to the police, leading to the opening of a magisterial inquiry.

In a statement, the MP said that on Friday he collected correspondence addressed to him from the PN reception. This included a white envelope which was mailed from Germany.

He said he opened the envelope at home, and found a silver-coloured sachet that was glued to an A4 paper on which there was nothing written.

This sachet contained another, similar one. Azzopardi said that when he opened the second sachet he saw white powder "with a particular smell which I had never seen nor smelt before". He said he informed the PN leadership, and moved on to report the matter to the police.

Azzopardi said that he filed the police report on Friday at 11pm, passing on the envelope and the material found inside for investigation. Azzopardi said that today he had been informed that the powder sent in the envelope was cocaine.

The police are investigating and a magisterial inquiry has been launched.

On a political level, Azzopatrdi said, this is a vicious frame-up attack against him in a bid to stop him from speaking up. Azzopardi vowed that he will not be intimidated.
