Partit Demokratiku said it has repeatedly stated that the Malta report by the Venice Commission should be used as a blueprint to kick-start the Constitutional Reform process, save a number of additional measures that it has proposed.
"If government truly has the political will to seize the opportunity to unite a divided nation, the appointment of Malta's next president should be approved by a Parliamentary two-thirds majority," stated MEP candidate Dr Anthony Buttigieg.
"In a month's time, Malta will have a new president, and government until now has stubbornly denied putting forth this request and appointing a Council of State," stated MEP candidate Martin Cauchi Inglott.
"Active citizenship and harnessing the contribution of legal experts in the field will go a long way towards taking the Constitution to the next phase of its development," stated MEP candidate Camilla Appelgren.
PD Opposition notes with much satisfaction that it is the party that is proactively leading the way forward, yet with caution, so that the discussion will not be politically captured. It is hoped that vested political interests do not jeopardize this much-awaited reform that has been on our national agenda for a number of years.
