MOU seeks to improve procedures related to social cases involving children

The collaboration between the Social Care Standards Authority and Commissioner for Children will help improve the procedures of children cases and to reduce bureaucracy within the system, Minister for the Family and Children's Rights Michael Falzon said today.

Speaking at the signing of a memorandum of understanding signed by the two entities, Falzon said that both authorities are working hard to safeguard the interests of children and that there is still much more which needs to be done to improve their wellbeing.

"An EU study came out that 99.9 per cent of Maltese children have access and availability to medication, and we are working towards making that 1 per cent available too," he said.

Social Care Standards Authority CEO Matthew Vella said that the agreement is a step towards simplify the process and reduce the level of bureaucracy. Vella said that the authority is working alongside the Commissioner for Children to ensure that any investigations regarding children and research on particular cases are carried out with the wellbeing of the child in mind.

Commissioner for Children Pauline Miceli said that the signing of the agreement strengthened the cooperation between the two entities and enabled them to work better together.
