Work is in hand at the Gozo helipad as the government intends to re-start helicopter services between the two islands.
Visiting the site, Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi said the service will operate directly to Malta International Airport.
A similar service had been introduced by the Nationalist government some years back but it had been discontinued.
Mizzi said a feasibility study is being carried out and through Malta Medair the government is in contact with various companies, including Airbus, to find out which helicopters would suit the service the government has in mind.
The air link could be used for emergency services and for tourism purposes, Mizzi said.
Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana said the government is aiming for better connectivity between Malta and Gozo.
Caruana had spoken at length about the service in an interview on Indepth.
