Malta and another 14 countries signed an agreement with the pharmaceutical company Seqirus for the production of a vaccination against pandemic flu, the government announced today.
The countries that signed the EU Joint Procurement Agreement to procure medical countermeasures are Belgium, Croatia, Cypruis, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, Holland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.
Health Minister Chris Fearne said that the agreement ensures that Malta will be adequately prepared for the eventuality of a pandemic flu.
The European Commissioner for Health Vytenis Andriukaitis described the agreement as the beginning of a new era for access to vaccination against pandemic flu.
