Valletta coach Danilo Doncic resigned the post Monday after the champions lost the league leadership following a 1-1 draw against Gzira on Sunday
Doncic was not on the bench for the match for medical reasons.
Sunday's draw meant Valletta are now in second place, one point behind Hibernians who climbed into first place after their victory against Birkirkara.
It is probable that assistance coach Gilbert Agius will lead the team for the last three games of the championship.
This was the second season for Doncic with Valletta. Last year, Valletta had won the league.
