Seminar on youths’ role in politics

Marsascala youths, together with youths from Hungary, Poland, Latvia and the UK – members of the Douzelage Association – took part in a seminar entitled 'For a better democracy and youths' role in politics'. Various discussions, based on research, were held in the respective countries. Around 70 people took part in the local exercise, which was held at St Anne's Band Club in Marsascala. Maltese youths got to know their European neighbours' perception of their involvement in local politics. Representatives of two of the participating countries said they did not have a student council at primary and secondary school levels and youth political structures were weak and unappealing, making it harder to involve themselves. On the other hand, foreign participants said politicians and the locals gave great importance to the environment, an issue Maltese participants agreed they should work harder at. Delegates agreed that the two most important issues were education and employment, saying there should be more educational structures in the field of politics.
