Emu's road-running adventure ends in stable

An emu seen roaming the A-roads of Suffolk has been captured, police said. The loose bird was spotted by an off-duty officer at around 7.15am on Wednesday, with a flurry of further calls from members of the public describing the creature variously as an ostrich, a rhea and an emu. A Suffolk Police spokesman confirmed the bird had now been caught by a member of the public in Glemsford near Sudbury - around 13km from the initial sighting in the Whepstead area. "It had got into somebody's garden and they managed to herd it into a stable," the spokesman said. "It's now secure and they're awaiting collection by the owner." The emu was captured shortly before midday, with police putting the owner in touch with the finder.
