These are the leading stories in today's local newspapers: The Times of Malta leads with reports that the government is willing to absorb all of Air Malta's debt as part of a deal to sell a 49 per cent stake to Alitalia. The two parties are said to be considering creating a new, debt-free company to do this. The Malta Independent reports that pickpocketing is on the rise, with 168 more cases in the year so far when compared to 2015. L-Orizzont writes that an LNG tanker to be delivered to Malta from Singapore will be a temporary solution while a gas pipeline between Malta and Italy is concluded. In-Nazzjon cites Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil, who yesterday called on the Prime Minister to take action following a Times of Malta story which revealed claims of corruption in the issuing of medical visas to Libyans.
