Civil society activists have published a report detailing threats and opportunities in several environmental areas, following a networking event last Saturday. 'Activists by the Sea', organised by Front Ħarsien ODZ and Friends of the Earth Malta, created a platform for informal discussion between local activists and members of NGOs, who were encouraged to attend and present their work. Some networking and team-building activities were organised to facilitate sharing of information about current activities that are in need of volunteers, possible partnerships and areas of overlap. A report was launched presenting the outcomes of the Right to Nature seminar held last March, which covered five aspects of environmental management in Malta. These were MEPA (Environmental Resource Authority and Planning Authority); Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development; Natura 2000, Outside Development Zones and Scheduled Areas; Spatial Planning; and Management of Water Resources. Each topic is presented with background information and identifies both threats and opportunities, with suggestions for improvements in each sector.
