Cahalan makes Sydney-Hobart history

Adrienne Cahalan was one of the many history makers in the 2016 Rolex Sydney Hobart… she was the first woman to achieve the 25 Sydney Hobart race milestone when she sailed over the finish line aboard Ragamuffin, the TP52 skippered by Brenton Fischer. Di Pearson caught up with the renowned navigator and author dockside yesterday to talk about her achievement and what it means for women in ocean racing. What would you like to say to young girls and women of any age who have aspirations of offshore racing? "I think the important thing is to go and tell people and boat owners you're interested, committed and want to give it a go. You need to make sure you tell them your strengths, not your weaknesses, because they will find that out, if they exist. "The main thing is, you've got to persist. It can be difficult to get in, especially if you're cold calling and trying to get into it, like I did. "But sailors are very friendly and they always want to help and they love having enthusiastic crew members."
