Simon Busuttil trying to 'destabilize country in desperation for power' - PL

Deputy Leader of the Labour Party Chris Cardona said that today's events confirm that the allegations in the Egrant case are a complete frame up. He was referring to reports that the whistleblower who gave her testimony before inquiring magistrtae Aaron Abela is facing accusations of fraud.

"This is a confirmation that Simon Busittil's is trying to destabilize the country."

He said that the PL will not "go into the merits of this person", but will focus on the cause of "all this instability", which he said is Dr Busuttil.

The whistleblower is reported to have ongoing cases of fraud, unlawful practice, aggravated theft and misappropriation of funds. Asked whether the PL is attempting to discredit the whistleblower, he rejected the assertion and said that the PL is pointing out how Dr Busuttil has fabricated a story based on allegations by somebody facing criminal prosecution.

Dr Cardona said that the opposition leader knows that the country is doing well, and in his "desperation for power" is ready to destabilize the country.

Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis said Dr Busuttil is "dangerous, desperate and irresponsible".

He made reference to PN deputy leader Beppe Fenech Adami and an inquiry into links with a country he was non executive director of a company linked with money laundering. An investigation led by three former judges was inconclusive, meaning that Dr Fenech Adami was not conclusively absolved of wrongdoing.

He also made reference to a separate PN scandal where shadow minister for justice Jason Azzopardi was accused of political interference with the sale of the Lowenbrau factory.

Dr Zammit Lewis said the allegations against Prime Minister Muscat and his family are based on pure fabrication, and questioned whether Dr Busuttil has what it takes to lead the country.
