Students do not teachers’ authority, archbishop says

Students today do not accept teachers' authority, and their responsibility to correct any misdemenour, Archbishop Charles Scicluna said today.

He was delivering a homily during a Mass celebrated on the occasion of St Joseph the Worker, patron saint of workers, at the St Joseph the Worker church in Birkirkara. The mass was celebrated on Saturday, with the Curia releasing photos of the activity today.

The non-acceptance of authority is one of the crises being faced today in the education sector. It would be disastrous if students who misbehave are not corrected, and when people doing their duty are punished, put aside or persecuted.

He said that people who dedicate themselves to religious education in schools should be commended. He said there should always be a place for God in schools.
