Tourists arriving in Malta this afternoon will not get the welcome they hope for, as their first experience of the island will be a huge traffic jam that has developed in the area because of road works there.
Likewise, people about to catch a flight out of Malta will hope to get there on time and it is advisable that they leave home or the hotel earlier than planned.
The photos uploaded online on the Maltese Roads Traffic Update Facebook page shows a long queue of cars trying to leave the airport area on their way to their destination.
"Traffic (is) at a standstill heading out of the airport due to works on the airport roundabout. Access to Gudja from the airport side is closed and Transport Malta officials are controlling traffic," the administrators of the page say.
"Traffic heading out of the airport is being diverted towards Kirkop tunnels," they add.
