The government this evening reacted to reports that certain banks were not accepting cyrptocurrency platforms, insisting that it "does not interfere with individual banks' operational policies, which are dictated by circumstances which they are best placed to assess."
In a statement, the parliamentary secretariat for financial services, digital economy and innovation said it was "positive that such an approach will be a short-term one and is in lieu of further details on Malta's policies in this regard."
"The Government of Malta is already on record stating that it intends facilitating a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency-related activities," it said.
"Within this context, a discussion document on regulating cryptocurrencies, Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) and Exchanges, will be launched imminently."
