The testimony given by Lands Commissioner before the Public Accounts Committee yesterday continue to expose the scandal behind a Spinola deal with the involvement of Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi, the Labour Party said in a statement.
The case in question is the transfer of property to the private sector, a property that was valued by the NAO as being worth €2.4 million but for which €525,000 was paid.
In spite of saying he wanted to get rid of the establishment, new PN leader Adrian Delia had remained quiet on the situation, a stand that can only be interpreted as being one in defence of Azzopardi, the PL said.
Testimonies had showed that Azzopardi took a personal interest on the transfer, lied when he said he had acted on instructions from the permanent secretary and was crucial for the deal to take place, the PL said.
Lands commissioner Albert Mamo testified yesterday that he did not know anything about the price and had not been consulted. Delia's silence is confirmation that he is has not taken over the party leadership, with the result that the country has the weakest opposition in history, the PL said.
