The Medical Council will be investigating Nationalist Party MP and spokesperson for Health Stephen Spiteri following allegations that he sold medical certificates without seeing patients.
Sources who spoke with this newspaper said that an inquiry will be launched to look into the matter. Lovinmalta.com have published a story claiming that Spiteri, a medical doctor by profession, produced medical certificates and sold them for €5 each before the patient is examined.
The Nationalist Party, in a statement today, said that it stands by Spiteri's denial of such allegations and that it does not intend to take action against him.
It appears that the racket was being carried out through a pharmacy in Kalkara where Spiteri is a resident doctor.
