35-year-old jailed after admitting to string of robberies

A 35-year-old man from Msida has been jailed after admitting to a string of robberies.

Terence Vella admitted to the thefts which occurred between February and October last year in the Msida and Gzira areas, and included a robbery from a convenience store, as well as the theft of cash and a laptop from the university library.

He had targeted three convenience stores as well as another shop in Msida. One of these was targeted twice.

He also damaged the door of a hair salon in Gzira. The court heard how he suffers from a drug problem.

Police used CCTV footage to help track the man down.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit ordered that Vella be imprisoned for two years six months. He was also placed under a two-year treatment order to help tackle his drug problems
