39,877 elderly persons began receiving payments ranging from €150 to €300, a statement by the ministry for social solidarity read.
Elderly persons aged 75 and over still living in their homes will be given €300 and that a €150 or €250 bonus will be given to persons who reached pensionable age yet have not yet turned 75, and who had not paid enough NI contributions to receive a pension.
In total, the statement read, 27,572 persons falling under the Senior Citizen Grant will receive a total of €8,233,923.62.
12,305 persons who reached pensionable age however are not yet 75-year-old and did not pay enough contributions to receive a pension will see €2,488,366.80 divided among them.
