AFM rescues five divers in two operations in Gozo

Earlier this afternoon, the Armed Forces of Malta said it rescued a total of five divers off the coast of Gozo, after the found themselves in difficulty.

The first rescue was of an Irish diver who was winched to land by the AW 139 helicopter. The second rescue was conducted by the Melita 2 in the Wied il-Għasri area, and involved four other divers. All divers have been taken to the Gozo General Hospital for further attention.

In a statement, the Armed Forces of Malta urged divers and diving instructors to exercise a high degree of caution and take all necessary measures in order to ensure that recreational diving is carried out safely and without additional risks to sport divers, keeping in mind that the safety of divers is paramount and should be given priority.
