The heavy rain that hit Malta this morning, coupled with road works in major arteries, has caused chaos and delays.
Drivers report lengthy travelling times between one place and another, with many reporting late to work as a result. Some school buses have also arrived late at their destination.
From Kalkara to Pieta it took nearly one hour when it normally takes 20 minutes, one irate driver wrote on Facebook. Another took 35 minutes from Siggiewi to nearby Zebbug. One other driver said he took one hour to travel from Fgura to San Gwann, and another said it took nearly two hours from Mosta to St Julian's. One man said it took him one hour to drive from Santa Venera to Birzebbuga.
Others say they are stuck in traffic with their car engine switched off. There is also a huge traffic congestion on the Coast Road, direction St Andrew's.
Drivers are being warned to avoid the Birkirkara by-pass, St Paul Street in Naxxar, the Marsa-Hamrun by-pass, Mdina Road in Zebbug and Aviation Avenue in Luqa.
