European Council President Antonio Tajani expressed his displeasure at the lack of mention for asylum system reform in the invitation letters to EU leaders for today's EU Council meeting.
Following Tajani's push for a focus to be put on irregular migration flows and Dublin reform, the Council refrained from mentioning migration on the invitation altogether. He has spoken of migration as a major issue in the European Union, focusing on what can be done to further strengthen Frontex, and seeing what can be done in Africa.
European leaders will be meeting over the next couple of days to discuss migration, security and defence, as well as economic and financial affairs. On Friday 29 June, EU leaders will also address Brexit (in an EU 27 format) and eurozone (Euro Summit format).
