Konrad Mizzi's resignation alone is not enough. We have to see how the people will be given back the millions that are being stolen from them for energy, Opposition Leader Adrian Delia said on Thursday evening.
Speaking on the party's radio station, Delia described Mizzi's reaction to the NAO report as surreal, adding that the former energy minister was living in a parallel universe.
Contrary to what the minister was saying, the NAO report is another form of condemnation.
The report clearly shows that the power station deal that Joseph Muscat wanted is costing the Maltese millions more than the PN's interconnector.
It also exposed the inconsistencies prevalent in the tendering process, adding that not all bidders were treated equally. And Gasol, a former partner in the winning consortium, did not have everything in order.
Delia said the NAO report also revealed that Nexia BT's Brian Tonna was team leader in the evaluation committee. He was also auditor for GEM Holdings, another Electrogas partner.
Tonna is the same person who opened Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri's Panama companies, in which they had declared that they would be receiving some €150,000 a month from 17 Black. The owner of that company is a director in one of the Electrogas partners.
The PN Leader said that, at the same time over 80% of households are being overcharged nt their energy bills. A PN government would be refunding this money, he said.
International institutions, like the European Banking Authority, are chastising Malta over serious shortcomings, including anti-money laundering rules, he said, adding that Schembri and Mizzi were seriously harming the country's reputation. The Prime Minister is refusing to take the decision that needs to be taken, and it is clear that his hands are tied on the matter, Delia said.
