40 investigated as cars stolen in Italy resold in Malta, Libya

Forty people are under investigation in Ragusa, Sicily, as the Italian police penetrated a gang of thieves who stole cars in Italy and resold them in Malta and Libya, Italian media report.

At least 30 luxurious cars were seized in Pozzallo, with the police believing that they were due to be shipped to Malta.

The cost of the cars is estimated to run into millions of euros, Italian media report.

Some 150 Italian police officers were involved in the operation, which led them to seize weapons, stolen number plates, stolen cars and car parts.
