An earthquake has hit the channel between Malta and Tunisia just before noon today, Italian media report.
The tremor was registered at 4.3 on the Richter scale, 8 kilometres below sea level, and hit at 11.59am.
Several people contacted The Malta Independent to say that they had felt the earth shake for a few seconds. The tremor was felt in Lampedusa and Linosa.
