A police sergeant was injured during an argument we was trying to break up in Cospicua this afternoon just before five o'clock.
The incident, which took place in the vicinity of St Paul's Bastion, saw the intervention of the Rapid Intervention Unit. When the RIU arrived on the scene, the situation appeared to have dissipated when suddenly three people - an 18, a 24 and a 29 year old from Cospicua - began arguing once again.
The sergeant was injured when the offers intervened to calm the situation down.
The sergeant was taken to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment and although his condition is unknown, he is not in danger of dying.
A constable was also slightly injured during the scuffle.
The three individuals are being held for questioning.
